CHUTNEY
CHUTNEY is a klezmer band with a twist. Drawing on their Eastern European and Middle Eastern heritage, they present a hot and spicy mix of original compositions plus their own modern takes on traditional dance tunes. CHUTNEY formed in Sydney at Limmud Oz 2019. They have since played the Roundhouse, LazyBones, The Gasoline Pony and The Vanguard, and regularly sell out shows at Camelot Lounge, collaborating with singers Ilan Kidron (The Potbelleez frontman), Sarit Michael and Doron Chester. They have been broadcast and interviewed on Eastside Radio Sydney, Fine Music Sydney, 4ZZZ Brisbane and Israeli national radio, and live streamed to thousands across five time zones during COVID-19.
Comprising well-known Sydney musicians Ben Adler (violin), Paul Khodor (keyboard), Ben Samuels (clarinet), Yiss Mill (percussion) and Oscar Gross (bass), the musicians’ on-stage chemistry is electric as they playfully traverse genres from folk to tango, gypsy jazz to indie rock, classical to funk, east to west. Expect to dance and get sweaty!
