WORKSHOP | This session is a practical application of the midrash method of writing as a lived experience. This method is a pathway to your personal understanding, or investigation, of a topic or event. At the start we'll cover a few principles that form the basis of writing midrash. Throughout the session each attendee will be writing their own midrash. Originally midrash was a narrative, interpreting Torah text. Now we use midrash in our search for meaning of contemporary issues regardless of religion or topic. If there is a topic, issue or event that you want to open up to yourself; to challenge a fixed narrative in, for example the media, bring that to this session. (If not – you will become clear in the session.) People come to understand the lived experiences of asylum and migration through mainstream media images and narratives. We will write to find the new that is knowledge.
